Mexican Mutts! Featured Dog of The Month!
Save A Mexican Mutt, or SAMM, is a dog rescue and adoption organization in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.
SAMM dogs are all "highly adoptable” meaning they are socialized, certified healthy and have desirable physical characteristics that make them highly adoptable.
The dogs rescued are adopted locally or transported to areas where there is high demand. This is done in an effort to discourage the buying of dogs from breeders, puppy mills and pet stores.
Since SAMM’s inception, hundreds of dogs have been transported to their forever homes in the United States. We work in conjunction with highly qualified and ethical rescue groups and shelters in Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. The majority of SAMM dogs are placed through direct adoption. Many are adopted locally.
Prior to adoption and/or transport, all dogs are sterilized, temperament tested, are current on their vaccinations, and if they are being transported receive a health certificate dated within three days of crossing the U.S. border from Mexico.

About SAMM
SAMM works very hard to match dog to family. If you are interested in a SAMM foster dog, be prepared to fill out a lengthy application.
Your application will be thoroughly reviewed and you will have a telephone interview. In most cases, we will arrange a home visit by a qualified rescuer.
These dogs have had a rough life. So, it is necessary to make sure they will have a home and family they can forever call their own.
It is also a goal of SAMM to ensure the animal you adopt fits your lifestyle and that of your family.

Adopt
DONATE SAMM is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization under the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. As such, your donations are U.S. federal tax deductible and donations are necessary to expand our efforts to help more dogs find forever homes.
The average cost to rescue, rehab and transport a dog in 2007 was $300 -- considerably more than the adoption fee!
ADOPT - DON’T BUY! SAMM does not believe in the breeding and sale of animals for monetary gain.
FOSTER Help a dog feel safe and secure in a loving home until he or she is ready to go their “forever” home.
TRANSPORT We are in constant need of transport throughout Mexico and the United States. If you live in or are visiting San Miguel de Allende and can transport a dog to the U.S., please contact us. We also need transport volunteers within the U.S.

Why Mexican dogs?
Adopting a dog from a foreign country is not for everyone. It is an individual choice. It is an option for anyone who cannot close their eyes to their suffering no matter where they are or where they come from.
Mexican dogs and their overpopulation are a result of the same ignorance that exists in the U.S. about spaying and neutering and puppy mill breeding.
Just as, Americans, contribute to charities around the world, adopt children from around the world and protect democracy throughout the world, they can also extend compassion and protection to animals from around the world. Save A Mexican Mutt!
Dedicated to the countless who never felt a gentle touch or whispered affection.

Pegaso

Pegaso is a special dog. He is a Belgium Malinois. He was found wandering the streets and was emaciated - weighing in at 48 lbs when he should have weighed closer to 60. He is now in a loving foster home and recovering nicely. He is very, very smart and attentive and will make an excellent companion for some lucky person.
